~~~ GUIDE TO CHOW OWNERS
About the temperament
Chows is a strong and wilfully independent dog. Although chows are highly intelligent and very loyal to their owner, their strong will makes them a challenge ideally suited to an owner prepared to give them both time and patience. The Chow has an independence more often found in a cat than a dog.
About characteristics
The coat is either rough or smooth. Rough chow's coat is profuse, abundant, dense, straight and stand-off, but not excessive in length. The smooth coat is short, dense, straight, upstanding, not flat, plush-like in texture.
Chows are compact, heavily-built dogs and should not be encouraged to jump up or race up and down stairs, as this can lead to injury to their legs. They can run fast over short distances. Chows do not require a lot of exercise but are always interested in going for walks and enjoying new smells.
Last details
We recommend you to choose a pure bred Chow, which means that the chow is registered to the french kennel club (SCC) or in any other countries working with the FCI (members or agreed). The Chow needs to pass an exam at 12 months old to have his pedigrees approved by the SCC.
